Executive Director

 

Location: Los Angeles County-Based Remote Hybrid

Salary: $80K-$110K

Travel: Up to 25%

 

Founded in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Southern California Pacific Islander Community Response Team (SoCal PICRT) is a coalition of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) community-based organizations and advocates providing much-needed resources and information to our communities in the cities and counties across Southern California, as well as vital direct services to our Los Angeles County families.

 

The Executive Director provides vision, leadership, motivation, inspiration, and direction to SoCal PICRT and our amazing staff members. The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring the successful operation of SoCal PICRT, including executing the organization’s strategic vision, fulfilling contractual obligations, and practicing sound fiscal management. The Executive Director is SoCal PICRT's key representative and must exhibit impeccable professionalism, excellent communication, and considerate interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will bring a drive to get things done, putting community first in providing exemplary and culturally resonant services, resources, and opportunities for NHPIs and NHPI-serving organizations in SoCal.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Manage programs from development to execution and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.

  • Manage program managers to ensure that all aspects of SoCal PICRT programs, including outreach, evaluation, reporting, and case management proceed smoothly.

  • Support the Programs, Development, Communications, and Admin teams with capacity-building initiatives (developing systems, standard operating procedures, processes, etc.) to continuously improve overall operations.

 

Fund Development

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and Development team to create and execute an annual fund development strategy and plan.

  • Work with the Management team to develop an annual operating budget to be presented to the Board.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with funders and donors.

 

Personnel Management

  • Supervise SoCal PICRT employee and contractor staff and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

  • Create a safe, equitable, inclusive, and diverse environment and support staff development to foster and exhibit these values.

  • Implement a goal-setting and performance review process that supports individual and team growth, motivates the team to excel, and fosters employee engagement.

 

Operations

  • Collaborate with the Finance team to maintain SoCal PICRT financial practices, including annual and program budgeting, quarterly financial statements, and monthly Board Treasurer’s reports.

  • Ensure SoCal PICRT’s compliance with all nonprofit legal and operational requirements.

  • Ensure strict adherence to SoCal PICRT’s financial policies and procedures in conjunction with the Board.

 

Communications and Public Relations

  • Collaborate with the Communications Specialist and Management team to develop SoCal PICRT’s external and internal communications strategy.

  • Actively build, maintain, and nurture collaborative relationships with other service organizations dedicated to NHPI community issues.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with elected government officials, local and federal, to advocate for NHPI needs and service opportunities.

  • Represent SoCal PICRT at public events and stakeholder meetings, building thought leadership, narrative and brand awareness, and community connections.

 

Strategy

  • Collaborate with the Board and staff to envision, create, and execute the organization's strategic plan to include annual goals and objectives for SoCal PICRT based on the annual assessment of the organization's growth plan and vision.

  • Ensure the strategic plan’s alignment with community, stakeholders’, allied organizations’, and governmental entities’ strategies and priorities.

  • Promote Board development through regular reporting, administrative support, and accountability measures.

  • Attend occasional evening and weekend meetings and events, in-person and virtual, in state and out of state.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Understanding of the cultures and relationships that make up the Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) community in Southern California.

  • Awareness of the challenges and opportunities facing the NHPI community and our community-based organizations.

  • Experience with NHPI policy advocacy issues and activities.

  • Familiarity with equity frameworks, critical race theory and analysis, and how NHPI community priorities align with those of other communities of color.

  • Significant senior leadership experience at a nonprofit or similar organization.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in program management, staff supervision, program development, and budget management.

  • Proven personnel management skills, including coaching, mentoring, and career path development.

  • Proven organizational management skills, including visualizing, developing, and executing short- and long-term strategic initiatives.

  • Strong financial literacy and financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting.

  • Inspirational team-building and relationship-building skills effective in both remote and onsite work environments.

  • Professional written and oral communication skills, including public speaking confidence and comfort representing SoCal PICRT in the community.

  • Ability to evaluate program effectiveness, fund development goals, and financial procedures and to make appropriate recommendations for improvement.

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of intergenerational individuals, including community members, staff, and clients.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment. This role requires frequent in-person meetings and events in LA County and surrounding areas.

  • Familiarity with federal, state, county, and city contract compliance issues, laws, and regulations governing nonprofit organizations.

 

Compensation and Benefits

Salary ranges from $80K to $110K per year. Benefits include remote-hybrid work, paid personal leave (vacation and sick), 10 paid holidays per year, health insurance, and professional development opportunities.
